Clonmel Traveller Primary Health Care Project

Clonmel Traveller Primary Health Care Project is an Irish Traveller peer led health programme, in which Travellers engage and work with their own community to promote physical, social, and mental wellbeing of Travellers.

The Traveller Community Healthcare workers provide outreach to Traveller families and work at grassroots level to promote the health and wellness of all family members. The programme focuses on the promotion of health within the community by delivering key health messages in accordance with the HSE Social Inclusion South East Community Healthcare (SECH) Traveller Health Programme. The programme is based on a partnership approach between the HSE and South Tipperary Development Company and is represented on the HSE SECH Traveller Health Unit. It enhances communication between Traveller families and Health services along with supporting families to attend health appointments and assisting with any paperwork i.e. medical card applications.

The programme has a Coordinator and three part time Traveller Healthcare workers.

Target group: All members of the Traveller community in the South of Co. Tipperary.

Referral: Self referrals; referrals from HSE. A Drop- in service also available.
