Túsla Child & Family Services

Túsla Child & Family services provide a Child Protection service under the Children First Act 2015. Where there are concerns relating to abuse and severe neglect of children, the service assesses these and takes appropriate measures in accordance with Children First: National Guidance to ensure child safety and welfare. This may mean provision of alternative care, either in foster care or residential care.

In both the North & South of the county, the Child & Family services are organized into teams, as follows:

  • Duty & Intake team – screening referrals and determining the first response
  • Protection & Welfare teams - managing medium to long-term cases of families in the community setting
  • Children In Care teams - responsible for children and young people who come into alternative care and their families
  • Fostering team – responsible for liaising with foster families with children in their care.

There is also an After-Care service to assist young people to prepare for leaving alternative care on reaching adulthood and to support them subsequently to live independently.

Target Group: Children and young people at risk of Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Emotional Abuse and Neglect

Referral: Referral to Túsla Social Work Department ; referral to An Garda Síochána; referral through the Túsla portal here
