Voluntary Housing Associations

Voluntary Housing Associations or Approved Housing Bodies are independent, not-for-profit organizations that provide affordable rented housing for people who cannot afford to pay private sector rents or to buy their own homes. Some cater for particular groups, such as older people or homeless people. These bodies can range from a large-scale social housing provider, e.g., Respond, with eleven small residential estates in eight villages and towns around the county, to voluntary committees with a local remit in a specific community.

Eligibility: Local Authority housing application criteria apply: i).having no suitable alternative accommodation, and ii). Meeting income criteria which demonstrate lack of means to provide accommodation from one’s own resources.

Referral: Application is made to the Local Authority for social housing. The application process is regulated by the Local Authority. An application can be downloaded from the Local Authority web-site.
